About

Steps, Steps, Steps

You’re already two steps further, and that’s amazing. You know you deserve the best, and you’re enough. Now let’s take the third step – with a little love and leap of faith – just one small step that could be life-changing.

Change can be scary and may feel uncomfortable. It’s OK to sit in your feelings for a little while until we understand their source, what’s causing you to feel this way, and how we can change it.

“Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we will ever do.”
– Brené Brown

Loving Yourself

Give yourself the opportunity and gift of loving yourself. Our friend Jasmine* did.

Jasmine* shared with us a journal entry written since starting therapy.

As I enter tonight’s journal entry, I sit here and think about all the things that have been holding me back to a happier, more energetic me. My work in therapy has helped me to take small steps in my journey toward healing.

I’ve realized how unhappy I was and how that unhappiness impacted me every day. I haven’t been putting my needs and happiness first, and I had forgotten how to love myself and how important it was for me.

I’ve learned that it takes time to heal from past anger, hurt, and resentment. I have been holding on to those negative feelings so long that I didn’t know how much it affected my self-esteem, goals, and even relationships with others.

Things may not be perfect, and I know I must keep working hard at it – learning new ways to cope, understand my triggers, and walk past my fears.

I feel confident and know that therapy is helping me move forward, and I now understand that loving myself will be a process that I happily embrace at this moment.

Think about this…

“Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you –
all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.”

– Rachel Naomi Remen

Mirror, Mirror

Let’s try something – walk over to the mirror and look at yourself, and yes, you’re having a great hair day!

After admiring our hair, let’s take a deep breath and sum up all we’ve learned about therapy.

Therapy can be rewarding just as much as challenging; we’ve learned there will be some good days and emotional days.

There will be tears, laughter, and clarity.

You will have to work hard, look at yourself, identify with your strengths and weaknesses – but you won’t have to do it alone.

I will be right by your side, providing you with support and guidance.

About Me

Hello, I’m Amrita.

I am from a small town called Windsor in the United Kingdom. You are probably wondering how I ended up here in California. Well, it’s a long story, but I will make it short. I am a British-born Sikh and moved to Florida in my teen years, and later, I moved to California.

Windsor is a beautiful little town on the outskirts of London. Growing up in England was beautiful and scary all at the same time.

The beautiful parts were amazing, having family around, riding our bikes with friends, and waiting for the ice-cream man.

However, the scary parts weren’t so lovely, and I remember one specific scary moment. One day, while walking home from school and thinking about which piece of homework to finish before being allowed to watch TV and play outside, I heard someone calling me a name.

But it wasn’t my name – it was something else, something an 11-year-old would consider “not nice,” “mean,” and “racist.” After the name-calling, the same girl threw stones at me while yelling “names.”

There is no reason to go into too much detail, but I imagine you understand the story. I’ve had many such encounters and witnessed many like the ones I experienced. It has been hard to carry around something like that throughout my childhood and even adulthood.

If there is even one experience that has made you feel a certain way, whether anger, sadness, or anything that caused any low self-esteem, I am here to help you overcome that experience. I know how it feels to live through something that permanently affects us and constantly creates an internal uproar.

It took work and time for me to heal – not carry those feelings throughout my daily life – and move forward from any fear that affected my future endeavors.

Let me support you with your struggle. Tell me your story, guide me through your journey, and let’s pave a new path, one that leads to healing.

Education

My M.A. degree is in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Central Florida, and I became a Licensed Clinical Counselor in Florida. Currently, I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California.

I’ve worked in many different settings and have enjoyed every experience. Every place I have worked and each of my clients has helped me grow in an unexplainable way. I keep each experience close to my heart and remember my experiences and the path that I discovered.
